I don’t know about you, but I can hardly wait until Thursday’s Vice Presidential debate and by the looks of it the country is too. I love that it is being billed as “Must See TV.” Yeah, NBC, we’ll be recording your comedy programs that night and opting for the live broadcast of this dramedy. It’s going to be a dicey one. Especially for Senator Joe Biden. It makes me so mad that the has to “treat” Governor Sarah Palin with kid gloves. Oh, we can’t make her look stupid or anything. He can’t be condescending. He has to gingerly tip toe around this issue and let her shoot herself in her own foot. And I think that’s why we’re all watching.
Believe me the pressure is on Palin too. She has to start to answer questions on her own and stop using her buzz words. There’s no hiding from America on Thursday. There’s no teleprompter and she’s going up against a seasoned prize fighter. I’m glad I’m not in her shoes. But then I again I won’t be. I have enough smarts - I would have never accepted the nod to be the VP with her background and family situation and I am all about women succeeding in the workforce. It just doesn’t make sense. Just because someone is adorable and moose hunts - does not qualify them to be a leader of our nation!
Also, in case you missed Senator Biden’s take of Friday’s Presidential Debate…you really must see this clip. He totally gets it and he’s winning me over. He was an excellent choice as VP and someone I feel “safe” in turning our country over to if needed. Take a look for yourself.
Oh and in case you missed this…here was the “Saturday Night Live” opening from last week with Tina Fey reprising her role as Sarah Palin. I mean…this should not be happening. It’s not good when media outlets mock you. This shouldn’t be happening. But the RNC brought this on. Let’s hope it gets fixed by the debate and Palin comes out strong and shows us why she should be a leader of our country!
Sometimes I despise what I do for a living and it’s been rearing its ugly head lately during this presidential race. For you see, my job has calls me to one of those “spin doctors.” There’s no PHD behind my name or Dr. before it. Not at all-I’m not that type of doctor. As a paid “spin doctor” I am charged with giving words to bosses that will sway opinions, create buzz, make a statement or just make them be plain funny. The spin doctors for McCain and Obama are “spinning” ad nauseum lately and their effects to say the least are at times dizzying and powerful. And yes even questionable.
Most of the people reading this post who support John McCain will probably tune out right now…but I hope if that’s you that you don’t. I have had great respect for Senator McCain long before he received the nod by the Republican party to run for president. Back in the day, he reminded me a bit of being Barry Goldwater-esqe. Yes, I’m a Democrat. But if Barry was alive today and running for office, he would be a man I could support. I am not one of those Ronald Reagan fans. I believe our current economic woes started with his belief that corporations can regulate themselves. Well, I’m sure you agree with today’s climate that they can’t, especially in the banking, investment and mortgage departments. The foxes ruled the roost and knew how to tip toe around loopholes and well, they got caught and took America with them. A cleansing is needed and shame on us for trusting them.
Anyway, enough about that. I’m saddened by Senator McCain’s flip-flops of late. I mean not less than ten years ago he used to stand by his word and well…he used to stand for things. Now, because there is so much to lose, he’s doing whatever his advisors (spin doctors) are telling him. In this process, he is losing what he knows best - that’s himself. It is so evident that he is bobbing here, jostling there. It’s not seamless. He’s not being authentic and that’s what is shooting him in the foot. I wish he would splash some cold water on his face and tell his handlers he’s back in charge again instead of reacting defensively to every aspect of his campaign. He needs a new posture.
Why Couldn't He Look Obama in the Eye?
I was there with you the other night watching the debate and I couldn’t believe what I saw. First off, commentators did notice that McCain never once looked Obama in the face. What’s that? Why not? What message would that have sent - that he can look people in the eye. Isn’t that taught to every kid in America. Doesn’t that mean you have integrity?
Also, the debate that came at the end of a very bad week for McCain. It’s too bad he and his team were not in a spinning class for they would have gotten some exercise along with all the work they did to persuade us that things that happened weren’t so.
I feel like every time a person of the media uncovers a “truth” McCain’s team is right there a minute later to say something nasty about the person or company and put the blame on them. Oh, they got their lines down now. Every reporter who asks VP contender Palin a question she can’t answer is bad. It’s not Palin, but the bad liberal reporter who asked a question he/she shouldn’t have. Or how about the NY Times or Newsweek, when they point out that McCain’s campaign manager Rick Davis has ties to Freddie Mac, they say the NY Times is slanted and leans to the left. They do anything that they can to cover up the truth and change the subject. And, sadly, they have been successful at it.
Then there was the Letterman incident which could not have been handled more poorly. This is a common practice for people like me who book talent on these shows. The best way that McCain could have handled the situation with Dave would have been to have been HONEST. All McCain had to say was that he had to appear on CBS News at the same time and that he regretfully had to pass at the last minute. He should have offered to tape something or be available for something live if possible. Then it would have been up to Dave to figure something out. You just don’t say you’re not coming a few hours before and then be in the same company’s news studio. They all share their feeds. He saw you! How dumb are your advisors and more importantly why are you listening to them. Take a look for yourself. Gotcha! He was caught on tape!
John get back to your basics. Go with you gut. Don’t keep sending Hail Mary passes - we’re on to them. It’s making you look so weak. We already know you wouldn’t have chosen Palin for your VP, she was a marketing ploy. Stop bobbing and weaving. It’s embarrassing for you. And quit attacking Obama. It’s beyond childish. Can’t you ever take the high road?
Then I got to thinking a bit personally. Is this something that we do too? How’s your posture? Where do you bob and weave and hide? Are there some areas that you deflect off of a subject for its too tender to talk about? I tell ya for me this unemployment issue is a sore subject. Some days I stand a bit straighter than others. But there’s pain there. And ya, on those strong days I can look you in the eye.
How straight is your posture?
So McCain take back your campaign before it’s too late. We need a leader in the White House not a puppet. Shame on you for these mistakes. We just want the truth, who cares if there’s a few missteps - the truth does not hurt as much as the lies.
