I don’t know about you, but I can hardly wait until Thursday’s Vice Presidential debate and by the looks of it the country is too. I love that it is being billed as “Must See TV.” Yeah, NBC, we’ll be recording your comedy programs that night and opting for the live broadcast of this dramedy. It’s going to be a dicey one. Especially for Senator Joe Biden. It makes me so mad that the has to “treat” Governor Sarah Palin with kid gloves. Oh, we can’t make her look stupid or anything. He can’t be condescending. He has to gingerly tip toe around this issue and let her shoot herself in her own foot. And I think that’s why we’re all watching.
Believe me the pressure is on Palin too. She has to start to answer questions on her own and stop using her buzz words. There’s no hiding from America on Thursday. There’s no teleprompter and she’s going up against a seasoned prize fighter. I’m glad I’m not in her shoes. But then I again I won’t be. I have enough smarts - I would have never accepted the nod to be the VP with her background and family situation and I am all about women succeeding in the workforce. It just doesn’t make sense. Just because someone is adorable and moose hunts - does not qualify them to be a leader of our nation!
Also, in case you missed Senator Biden’s take of Friday’s Presidential Debate…you really must see this clip. He totally gets it and he’s winning me over. He was an excellent choice as VP and someone I feel “safe” in turning our country over to if needed. Take a look for yourself.
Oh and in case you missed this…here was the “Saturday Night Live” opening from last week with Tina Fey reprising her role as Sarah Palin. I mean…this should not be happening. It’s not good when media outlets mock you. This shouldn’t be happening. But the RNC brought this on. Let’s hope it gets fixed by the debate and Palin comes out strong and shows us why she should be a leader of our country!
Sometimes I despise what I do for a living and it’s been rearing its ugly head lately during this presidential race. For you see, my job has calls me to one of those “spin doctors.” There’s no PHD behind my name or Dr. before it. Not at all-I’m not that type of doctor. As a paid “spin doctor” I am charged with giving words to bosses that will sway opinions, create buzz, make a statement or just make them be plain funny. The spin doctors for McCain and Obama are “spinning” ad nauseum lately and their effects to say the least are at times dizzying and powerful. And yes even questionable.
Most of the people reading this post who support John McCain will probably tune out right now…but I hope if that’s you that you don’t. I have had great respect for Senator McCain long before he received the nod by the Republican party to run for president. Back in the day, he reminded me a bit of being Barry Goldwater-esqe. Yes, I’m a Democrat. But if Barry was alive today and running for office, he would be a man I could support. I am not one of those Ronald Reagan fans. I believe our current economic woes started with his belief that corporations can regulate themselves. Well, I’m sure you agree with today’s climate that they can’t, especially in the banking, investment and mortgage departments. The foxes ruled the roost and knew how to tip toe around loopholes and well, they got caught and took America with them. A cleansing is needed and shame on us for trusting them.
Anyway, enough about that. I’m saddened by Senator McCain’s flip-flops of late. I mean not less than ten years ago he used to stand by his word and well…he used to stand for things. Now, because there is so much to lose, he’s doing whatever his advisors (spin doctors) are telling him. In this process, he is losing what he knows best - that’s himself. It is so evident that he is bobbing here, jostling there. It’s not seamless. He’s not being authentic and that’s what is shooting him in the foot. I wish he would splash some cold water on his face and tell his handlers he’s back in charge again instead of reacting defensively to every aspect of his campaign. He needs a new posture.
Why Couldn't He Look Obama in the Eye?
I was there with you the other night watching the debate and I couldn’t believe what I saw. First off, commentators did notice that McCain never once looked Obama in the face. What’s that? Why not? What message would that have sent - that he can look people in the eye. Isn’t that taught to every kid in America. Doesn’t that mean you have integrity?
Also, the debate that came at the end of a very bad week for McCain. It’s too bad he and his team were not in a spinning class for they would have gotten some exercise along with all the work they did to persuade us that things that happened weren’t so.
I feel like every time a person of the media uncovers a “truth” McCain’s team is right there a minute later to say something nasty about the person or company and put the blame on them. Oh, they got their lines down now. Every reporter who asks VP contender Palin a question she can’t answer is bad. It’s not Palin, but the bad liberal reporter who asked a question he/she shouldn’t have. Or how about the NY Times or Newsweek, when they point out that McCain’s campaign manager Rick Davis has ties to Freddie Mac, they say the NY Times is slanted and leans to the left. They do anything that they can to cover up the truth and change the subject. And, sadly, they have been successful at it.
Then there was the Letterman incident which could not have been handled more poorly. This is a common practice for people like me who book talent on these shows. The best way that McCain could have handled the situation with Dave would have been to have been HONEST. All McCain had to say was that he had to appear on CBS News at the same time and that he regretfully had to pass at the last minute. He should have offered to tape something or be available for something live if possible. Then it would have been up to Dave to figure something out. You just don’t say you’re not coming a few hours before and then be in the same company’s news studio. They all share their feeds. He saw you! How dumb are your advisors and more importantly why are you listening to them. Take a look for yourself. Gotcha! He was caught on tape!
John get back to your basics. Go with you gut. Don’t keep sending Hail Mary passes - we’re on to them. It’s making you look so weak. We already know you wouldn’t have chosen Palin for your VP, she was a marketing ploy. Stop bobbing and weaving. It’s embarrassing for you. And quit attacking Obama. It’s beyond childish. Can’t you ever take the high road?
Then I got to thinking a bit personally. Is this something that we do too? How’s your posture? Where do you bob and weave and hide? Are there some areas that you deflect off of a subject for its too tender to talk about? I tell ya for me this unemployment issue is a sore subject. Some days I stand a bit straighter than others. But there’s pain there. And ya, on those strong days I can look you in the eye.
How straight is your posture?
So McCain take back your campaign before it’s too late. We need a leader in the White House not a puppet. Shame on you for these mistakes. We just want the truth, who cares if there’s a few missteps - the truth does not hurt as much as the lies.
Lately, I have been rubbing elbows with more married people than usual. I have been doing this for two reasons. Namely, because most my age are married and I also have been trying to get myself prepared for that miraculous day if it ever does come. When around these couples I ask them a lot of questions especially about how they keep their love alive for I know marriage is hard work. I’ve never met a couple who said less, but they also say how worthwhile it is.
But, when it’s bad, then it’s bad. The pain that marriage was supposed to take away, becomes a nagging, depressing gut wrenching hurt, especially when a stalemate has occurred or when one feels ignored and the other does not want to work on the union.
My church is aligning with a new Christian film coming out next week distributed by Sony called “Fireproof”. The production company is actually a church in Georgia, Sherwood Baptist. The movie stars Kirk Cameron as a fire captain whose flame in his marriage is almost extinguished. He wants a divorce that is until his dad convinces him to give it another try. I applaud them for addressing this subject and their willingness to help strengthen these bonds.
When reading over the materials presented in tandem with the movie, a couple of startling facts pierced my heart. Did you know that 50 percent of all people in U.S. will be divorced at least once in their lifetimes. Think about all the people you know married and well others who are divorced and you can see why that statistic is true.
Ugh!
As an outsider and a single woman, I have been a confidant to several un-happily and happily married couples. Some of the unhappy ones have tell tales signs about what’s going on or not at home. It seems a common thread usually is communication. The talking just stops and resentment slips in. And as one gets more and more bitter, then the doors begin to slam and each become more “sensitive” to every action or word muttered. These are not happy times when couples drift apart. It takes work, but the union can be joined together again-it happens numerous times.
Not Fun When It's One Sided
Then there’s the times when I am around couples who are doing it right. They have formed partnerships and work at supporting one another through good and bad times. They are the ones who still smile when their significant others walk into the room even after 15, 20 or 50 years of marriage. They will tell you that they had to work at their marriage, but it was worth it.
Another sobering fact that “Fireproof” pointed out came from survey that they gave to men. The survey asked men if they would prefer to feel “alone and unloved” or “inadequate and disrespected.” What do you think the results were? 24 percent said that they would rather feel “inadequate and disrespected” vs. a whopping 76 percent who would rather feel “alone and unloved.”
I think that fact spells it all out. If I was part of a married team, I would feel utterly “crappy” if I thought my mate disrespected me or felt that he married the wrong person. And to be totally truthful, I have felt this at times in relationships, especially when I was the one pushing to make it work. Believe me, it doesn’t feel very good. As one married friend so aptly put it, it’s no fun when the other partner doesn’t want to fix the marriage. Those are deal-breaker times. For it does take two to make a cord stronger.
So maybe that fact presents a good “key” to help unlock some of the current marital issues. Are you feeling resentful in your marriage? If so, are you being honest to your soul mate and talking to him/her about it? Do you feel safe in telling him/her how you are feeling? Or are you taking a passive aggressive stance? Do you need to get some help - if so do it. Do whatever it takes to become a team again. Get advice from a marriage counselor, join small groups, find the love again if you can. Sometimes I know it’s just not possible and I feel for you. I really do. I just hope your marriage doesn’t resemble the 1989 comedy flick “War of the Roses.” For a bit of levity…take a look at the trailer for the movie.
As our Republican party wants to put “Country First,” I think a great way to build up our country is through strengthening our marriages. For if the core of our households are strong, then they become a mighty fortress that stands together despite what comes. Hurricanes, stock market tumbles, unemployment, foreclosures, you name it. All can be weathered better as one than as a house divided.
A Family that Plays Together...
Now this not only works for families, but our government as well. I mean at this moment, the California state budget is at an impasse. And our country is torn apart by a potential vice president candidate wearing lipstick vs. a young senator as president. While this is going on our entire financial infrastructure is falling apart! Is anyone noticing!!!!!!! Analysts are finally admitting that we are in a Recession…well to me it does feel like a depression. Yes, the recession is here.
Lehman Brothers, gone. Merrill Lynch is now BofA. AIG is owned by the government and our stocks are well plummeting. Things aren’t good. We need a marriage counselor for America. We need to unite and fast. Stop the resentment. Stop the bitterness. Start communicating. Come together. We don’t have to live like ex’s who’ve had messy divorces. Throw away political parties and start being just plain Americans who desperately need some advice on how to get out of the fixes we’re in.
Oh Happy Day if Both Sides Could Get Along
For we’re only stronger together, than as people who are separated. Let’s fight for America. It’s worth fighting for just ask anyone serving in the Armed Services. Let’s start opening up our minds and looking for workable compromises. Let’s sniff out greed. Let’s check motives. Let’s get moving toward a better tomorrow, quick before Hollywood has to re-make “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Here’s a scene from the movie at the pivotal point when the bank is bankrupt.
Until next time or another bank goes under….did I hear WaMu.
What in the world is going on? Yesterday was a harrowing day for so many, especially those who are employed in some sort of rescue service.
I mean anyone with a TV set I’m sure was fixated on watching the storm coverage regarding Hurricane Ike and if in LA, they split their time between the live coverage of the horrific Metrolink head on collision with a Union Pacific freight train. You couldn’t stop watching and you couldn’t believe what you were seeing.
I had the great pleasure of attending the Angels game last night and it was amazing. The Angels were tied going into the bottom of the 9th against the Mariners and with two out and the pitch count at 3-1, Figgones was stealing and then Mike Napoli hit a walk-off two run homer. It was an incredible finish to a action packed game and I had amazing third row seats. Plus we had a firework show afterward too. It was a home run as far as life events go.
To watch this great moment, click on the link below.
But, I couldn’t help feel a bit guilty for having a wonderful time when others in our fine country and in a town less than 70 miles away were suffering.
As soon as we got home we started watching Ike and the live coverage of the Metrolink disaster. The talk in my living room was that we were in “awe” of those people who decided to stay home during the hurricane when they were repeatedly told to “get out.” I mean, to me, it’s a pretty sad state when your home is more important than your life. And equally selfish is the fact that by those who stayed behind, they are now putting the fire and rescue teams in harm’s way as they go back into the dangerous area to see who may need attention. I just heard that 100,000 decided to stay behind and they have overwhelmed the 911 switchboard. Duh! They told you to get out. Now, the National Guard is in action and conducting search and research and going after these people. They are being picked up via helicopter and taken to high schools or hospitals. They are saving them from the flooding area.
The scene was crazy…did you see the fires last night in Houston. Did you see the swirling wind. The glass flying. Floods. Hats off to the reporters who all gave us amazing first hand coverage. I have to give props to Fox News. They have some new recording devices that utilize the web and I just watched a reporter whose driving around in the news truck and the picture and sound were perfect. Incredible innovations.
But it’s a mess. Now that it is daylight, you can see the damage. Scary the force of that wind. I once was in a tornado and that was a horrifying experience. All we could do was huddle in the basement. There wasn’t nothing to do but wait it out. I can’t imagine having that feeling for 24 hours. Just waiting it out to see if you live or are faced with expensive home repairs. But, it’s not just Texas, but Louisiana too. Louisiana has had enough don’t you think.
And then there’s the sadness of the Metrolink train crash. The eyewitness reports were all the same. The passengers said that they were just chatting with the people in the train and enjoying the fact that they were almost home and then BAM! they went flying. For they all said who ever thought they would go head on with a freight train. That’s not supposed to happen. Yes, that’s not supposed to happen. But, sadly it did.
And from the outside you couldn’t tell how bad it was. But, soon you started to get the idea as people began reporting on what they experienced. God bless the fire fighters. Did you see them in action. They were like ants. Yellow ones. They were crawling all around that train, trying desperately to go deeper and deeper in the cab. For they were seeing something, thank goodness, we’ll never have to see. Bodies on top of bodies. There were layers of them. And several people were living, yet they had dead bodies on top of them. That’s how they were pinned down. And that’s why these “ants” kept at it until the crack of dawn. They are still out there recovering someone’s loved ones.
I don’t know if you watched last night when they recovered a deceased off-duty LAPD officer from the train. It was a goose-bump event to witness. When they recovered her, the fire personnel lifted her from the train and they removed their helmets and dipped their heads. It was one of the most respectful things to ever witness. And the fire fighters gracefully and slowly carried her to a large group of LAPD officers. When they transferred her, she was already draped in an American flag (which was borrowed from a nearby home owner). The LAPD officers prayed over here and saluted her. It was such a respectful scene. I felt honored to have been able to witness that deep appreciation. As of right now, 18 people are dead and over 135 are injured - 40 severely. A tragedy.
Both areas are in such a mess. Devastation surrounds them. But, I have such deep admiration and greater respect for these rescue teams. Can you imagine that they are strong enough to handle these horrific scenes. How would you handle pulling body parts out a train or picking glass out of people. They were so calm and diligent and keep at it.
What a job hey. They are remarkable people. And our soldiers are the same too. They never know what to expect either. Incredible.
My only pet peeve about all this is the way politicians are using this opportunity to comment. I mean President Bush should declare a ’state of emergency.’ But for the other presidential candidates, your opinion to me is just grandstanding. Let the mayors and governors speak to this. It’s fine to acknowledge the devastation and stay you are praying for them. But at this point there’s nothing you can do unless you can do something to make our lives safer. Let the rescue workers do their jobs and let the families grieve. Don’t bring your media circuses into these areas. There’s enough great coverage as it is.
If you’re able to enjoy the day…you’re blessed. So thank your lucky stars, your higher power, or if you’re like me GOD for your safety today. Say a prayer too for those less fortunate. That’s what keeps America united.
If you hear bells go off at 6:58AM this morning, it’s not your alarm clock. It’s the bells ringing from your neighborhood fire houses as they remember this tragic day seven years ago. Yes, I’m talking about 9-11-2001. The day that will sadly live in infamy as my generation’s Pearl Harbor.
It’s nice that our firefighters, city officials and police departments still recognize this day. In fact, it’s important that everyone does. And there should have been more public remembrances, don’t you think. Maybe there are in New York…but there should also be in LA and worldwide.
For this day affected every human being alive in the world at the time. The world stopped. Who could have ever imagined such a horrible thing happening - four commercial jetliners being used in a suicide mission inside the USA.
Yes, specific locations were affected - New York City, The Pentagon and Shanksville, PA - and nearly 3,000 people died - but, a part of us died too who survived. We lost our innocence that day and since then have lost all trust that we are a fully protected terrorist free country. The 9-11 Attacks proved that terrorist cells could exist beneath our very noses.
Nevertheless, thank goodness that our officers of compassion still remember this day. So if you happen to drive by a fire house or police station today and see the ladders and American flag up - it’s there for a reason. And it’s worth our reflection if not our prayers. Don’t just zoom by without a care in the world. If you happen to see the officers in “blue” give them a wave or a smile. It’s a hard day for them. They lost a lot of their comrades in the line of duty.
Today is going to be hard day for every American too - so please take it easy yourself and have patience toward everyone. The news media will be airing those images that we have plastered in our minds - those planes flying through the World Trade Towers. Those images.
If you miss a local remembrance, create your own. If you can hang a flag up at your house do it today. As I mentioned, give a smile to your local firemen. And say a prayer…say many prayers throughout the day. Pray for our country. Pray for the world. Pray for our next leader and that he may never have to go through such an atrocity. Pray for the families of the victims who still mourn and grieve. Pray for those who still have nightmares from it - those who rescued people and had to remove the body parts. Pray for restoration. Pray for healing. Pray for peace.
But most importantly, Remember.
THIS JUST IN FROM A FIREFIGHTER TODAY…
Thoughts from a firefighter who just had a 9/11 remembrance at his fire station. Pretty sobering thoughts.
Our 9/11 remembrance was actually pretty great. We did have a couple of people drive by and salute, but most people just looked at us and wondered what we were doing. Typical how people quickly forget the sacrifices that were made that day. Especially by the 343 firefighters who gave their lives trying to save others, selflessly. There were many police officers who died as well trying to save people, I think around 85. Then, all those poor innocent people who died. I still get chills seeing footage of civilians who jumped to their death from the highest upper floors of the towers because they were burning up. If you saw the footage, you would be horrified. We got to see this footage when we had training if a plane was crashed into one of our high rises. There were dozens and dozens of people who jumped to their deaths. They were going to die anyway, but it’s awful seeing that. But it was a nice remembrance with all the city council members and city manager and other city employees. This is definitely a reminder of how dangerous my job can be in an instant.
I wish all of you could have had some of the great follow up discussions I personally had with folks about my “Country First” prior blog. This is a serious issue for so many people and there are many great ideas out there. What folks have shared with me are numerous issues and thoughts…they are very powerful and would take days to research…but they are fantastic and worthy of being posted. Here’s some info that people were kind enough to discuss with me.
National Safety - Okay - I was extremely naive in my thoughts about this subject. Most of our security measures are off limits to us - for security reasons - but I have a better understanding of the urgency to stay on top of it all. I have a friend in public safety and he has to put his life on the line if say someone reports a car bomb or anthrax for instance. I sometimes think “oh it won’t happen here in Southern California”, but thank goodness officials at city governments take this matter seriously. They spend hours upon hours having their fire and police forces prepared to handle these types of situations. So it’s not just about protecting our borders…but our interior as well. My apologies for not understanding the importance of this to local districts.
World Views - A friend who lives in Canada pointed out to me the importance of the US election is worldwide. It appears that the world is bit concerned if “change” will indeed come! And they don’t want the same as well.
Empty words - It seems everyone wants all the candidates to put substance behind their words. Like how are you going to create new jobs? It’s easy to say, but with our current work structure - there are only two things to do at the moment…grow or downsize. Most are downsizing. So how are we going to add jobs in this bleak economy?
Outsourcing - Great article in Business Week this edition. How much we outsource our pharmaceuticals. Another area that got away.
Sarah Palin this Sarah Palin that…lots of comments about her. But I have to admit it was a “genius” move by the RNC. She’s captivated the country if not the world. She’s made the election exciting.
China - The Olympics showed us a lot about China. I have to give my sis props on opening my eyes to this. Look at the innovations that had. Look at the fact that over 1 million citizens volunteered. (Would that happen in America.) She also made a great point…with so many people there…how do they run their health care system? If anyone has that answer I’d love to hear it. They all look healthy, not as overweight as other countries.
Censoring News - I’m all befuddled over NBC asking Obermann and Matthews to stay home election night. I mean those who watch them know their bent like we know O’Reillys or the others. I’m going to ponder this awhile and will probably blog about it in the future.
Got to keep this post short for I’m off to tennis…I’m able to do this because we are protecting our country so well. At the end of the day, most of you said we all just wanted a unified America. I agree with you on that. The party doesn’t matter. The country does.
I need a little help here. Can anyone tell me what “Country First” means? I am no dummy and am not a Rhodes scholar either, but for the life of me I am confused by this mantra. I have marketing skills and I’m an American - so I’m hoping that anyone who lives in the country already ascribes to putting our “Country First.” Why is this suddenly a new push? Doesn’t our current President already employ this idea with every decision he makes? (Never mind answering.) And as a recent USA TODAY article pointed out..what does this say about those who put God or Family first?
This “Country First” thing does raise some questions for me. Does this only mean that we need to keep our country safe from terrorists? Or that we shouldn’t outsource jobs to other countries? Or that our democracy is the only democracy that should be honored? Or how about this one…That we shouldn’t have fair and balanced news?
I would much rather see a slogan that says “People First.” Who cares where they live is my feeling. And I’m not being un-American by saying this. For if we keep this top of mind, then all of our decisions will benefit America and other parts of the world and not only big business.
For here’s some ways that we can help America-and quite frankly several of them would be firsts!
-Solve our health care problems (make sure that anyone who needs medical attention can afford it, this includes dental and vision too.)
-Make sure we invest in creating more secure jobs in this country and clean up the bonus structures for some of the obscenely paid CEOs.
-Get our troops home!
-Invest in alternate fuel or use others like natural gas.
-Clean up our political structure. Oh for a politician who wasn’t pressured to side with contributors.
-Have our government work together for the good of the country and people and not choose their party sides.
Let’s put people first! And a great example of that recently was the Summer Olympics. I’m sure you marveled at every gold winning performance despite what country the person was from. So if we’re helping people by cleaning up our air, we’re putting America first and the world also benefits.
I do believe we need to protect our country from attacks, but I believe we have that covered. We are doing that…I have to admit that it’s a pretty sad day when one of our parties has to remind us that somehow in Washington D.C. they’ve forgotten to keep our country first-whatever that means.
Feel free to comment. I’m sure this one will bring in some great debates.
Sorry to keep hammering this home. But the first thing I saw this morning atop my google news was
Jobless rate at 5-year high
Fri Sep 5, 2008 10:10am EDT
By Glenn Somerville
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. unemployment rate unexpectedly shot up to 6.1 percent in August, the highest in nearly five years, as employers cut payrolls for an eighth straight month and a decline in labor markets accelerated.
The Labor Department said on Friday 84,000 jobs were lost in August, significantly more than the 75,000 that economists surveyed by Reuters had forecast. In addition, July’s job losses were revised up to 60,000 and June’s to 100,000 from a previously reported 51,000 in each month.
Analysts said the bleak hiring data showed a weakening economy that likely will oblige the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates low for an extended period.
“The economy is clearly deteriorating,” said Gary Thayer, senior economist for Wachovia Securities in St. Louis. “We’re also seeing weakness around the globe so there’s less reason for the Fed to focus on inflation and more reason to focus on getting the economy back on its feet.”
Yes, indeedy. Things are getting worse each month! This is all leading to another post. See above.
Recently a friend of mine accepted a part-time job to get a bit of extra cash. He called me to ask me if I thought this particular job was in anyway demeaning. The job he accepted was out of his field and I think he was worried what others might think. Well, his question got me thinking and what I’ve come up with is this statement. THERE IS NO DEMEANING JOB.
I mean the only thing demeaning is that there aren’t enough jobs for those who are seeking them! And you can quote me on that!
According to Computer World, Obama said that as president, he “will stop giving tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas, and I will start giving them to companies that create good jobs right here in America.”
I sure hope that is true. We need to CREATE new jobs in the USA and not for other countries. It’s extremely difficult to find work these days period. So for anyone that has a job, it’s to be respected no matter the duty or responsibility. I know that one of the most popular subjects on TV shows right now are jobs. The dirtier or worst the better. So disgusting jobs are sexy now.
But that’s not the point I want to hit home. The point I want to make is…times are really difficult now in employment. The days of having someone work at one company their entire career are rare. Yes, they still happen, but not like our parent’s generation. Security does not exist.
I loved something I recently read in Business Week’s August 25th edition on “Business@Work.” Marshall Goldsmith gave sobering advice to young workers. His advice was:
It is tough out there, and it’s only going to get tougher.
Forget about security.
Like it or not, even if you start out with a large corporation, you are going to be an entrepreneur.
Make peace with this reality, and your life is going to be a lot better.
Nothing like having a cold glass of water thrown in your face, huh. Goldsmith is so right! Our current times are forcing us to “change” our views about how we earn our money. It’s not the same as when I entered the workforce after college. And now that I am in the unemployment line, I cannot employ the same mechanisms I did then looking for work. All four points he said are true. It’s a whole new ballgame.
But, we all need money. And if you are the head of a household, the pressure is great. So if someone feels demeaned by a job that they had to take to “take care of their family,” they can internally feel that way. But, to others, we understand and applaud and respect the fact that he/she had to do what he/she had to do to support loved ones. For it’s tough out there. Therefore, no job is demeaning.
Times are tougher for those already established in the workforce, especially if they were downsized. If he/she is near 50, the reality is that it will take some time to find a equal position and pay as the job you left. Most larger companies are laying off higher waged employees who have been nothing by loyal to the company to make the bottom line. The higher placed experienced employees are being replaced by less experienced employees at much cheaper rates. But, the funny thing about this practice is that the Presidents and CEOs and CFOs who are making these decisions aren’t touching their paychecks. Ironic huh.
So Presidential hopefuls McCain and Obama, you both keep spouting change. Well, this is one key area that needs change. Let’s see if you can keep your campaign promises and bring back some jobs to the US! Make our votes count and remember what you have been hearing from those who just want decent jobs with decent salaries.
